Help for troubled teens
What does it mean to have a “troubled teen”?
The term troubled teen isn’t a medical label. It just means a young person is having a hard time handling their feelings, school, or relationships. If your teen is acting out or pulling away, it’s usually a sign that they’re hurting inside.
Signs of a troubled teen
Common concerns that parents have regarding their troubled teen include
- Skipping class or a sudden drop in grades
- Using drugs or alcohol to cope with stress
- Constant fighting with family or breaking rules
- Withdrawing from friends and hobbies
- Engaging in dangerous activities or self-harm
Finding the right programs for troubled teens in Idaho
When your child is hurting, it can feel like you’re running out of options. Choosing among programs for troubled teens is a big decision.
At Avery’s House, we believe that troubled youth programs shouldn’t feel like a punishment. They should feel like a safe, supportive home where your child can finally breathe and begin to heal.
Why our troubled teen programs are different
- Homelike setting: Most programs for troubled teens feel like hospitals. Ours feels like a home, which helps teens feel safe enough to open up.
- Clinical excellence: We are one of the leading troubled youth programs in Idaho. We use proven therapy methods like CBT and DBT.
- Family-first approach: We know that for a teen to get better, the whole family needs support. This sets our troubled teen programs apart from others that focus only on the child.
Boise’s best home for healing and growth
At Avery’s House, we believe that teens heal best in a place that feels like home, not a hospital. Our Boise facility is designed to be warm, safe, and welcoming.
I thought that Avery’s House was a good fit for my teenage daughter, who has been struggling with depression and anxiety. Avery’s House is much closer to the home environment than an institutional setting. I think that this makes the transition back to home more natural and easy. I also enjoyed the family therapy and family support groups that are a part of the overall program.

Finding the right program for your teen
We offer three levels of care to fit your family’s needs.
Our experts will look closely at your child’s needs to decide if they should stay with us for 24/7 care or live at home and complete a more flexible program.
Residential Program
- Your teen stays with us 24/7 in a safe, cozy home. They get round-the-clock support and therapy.
Day Treatment (PHP)
- A full-day program where teens get intense therapy but return to their own beds at night.
Intensive Outpatient (IOP)
- A flexible schedule of 3–4 sessions a week for teens who are ready to stay at home while they heal.
We accept insurance
We work with most major insurance providers to minimize out-of-pocket costs. We’ll help you determine whether your provider covers your teen’s treatment.
